7 Questions: How Can You Build a More Productive Team?

Despite several new technologies and businesses when it comes to maximizing productivity not everyone has jumped on board. This has created a disparity from lender to lender when it comes to “where they are at”. Here are 7 questions to help you build a more productive team and help create a consistent industry.

If you are not sure where you stand, here are a few questions you can ask yourself or your team.

Is productivity highly underestimated? Do departments really know where they struggle?

Could the use of tech innovations improve the output that you want to see?

Is productivity being overestimated (yes this can happen) or are things being missed?

If productivity has slowed what is the cause of the lag?

How do your team members measure their productivity as a department and individuals?

A Productive Team

Once you can answer these questions, you can see if you can possibly impact overall productivity by either implementing changes across multiple departments or just in one. You may also see areas where there are too many steps in place or tasks that could be handled by a multifunctional team that you could put in place.

Many times when these types of evaluations are done, managers forget to look at the importance of human capital. The people that you employ can often be your greatest tools. Many times, they have hidden talents which when encouraged, can give direction so new opportunities can be built. Not knowing where these strengths are, can prevent you from building a productive team.

If you feel that the employees of your organization may be underutilized, then it’s time for you to find out where they feel they could improve processes. This will also help your bottom line because employees often know where the “time-sucking” tasks are in their workday but may feel uninspired to make those known.
If you think that may be a source for an opportunity in your business. Begin by asking your employees the following:

Are your skills being underestimated? What are some things you know you are great at in your current role? What do you enjoy doing?

Where do you think your team is on a scale of 1-10 when it comes to productivity?

Although we don’t like to admit it, do you feel that you have “wasted time” every day?

The answers to all of these questions again, give you insights to both processes and productivity within your company. It will also show you who your productivity stars are and who will be there to help you make a change if needed to get the productive team that you want.

Short-Term Efficiency

Never underestimate short-term efficiency. This can mean short task lists being focused on every morning to “clean house” before the new workload starts. It can also mean focusing on tasks that eat up everyone’s time before moving on to meetings. Many times meetings take place first thing in the morning which means employees start work later. Imagine asking everyone to come in at 8 am, complete email checks and finish their task lists and then come to a meeting at 11 am?

When evaluating what needs to happen, “productive” will not always be about an average speed that is consistent on tasks and not maximum full-throttle speed on everything your team needs to do.

When you know your team and their weaknesses you can maximize your efforts. By doing this, you will quickly see that your team begins running not only with more confidence but with better profits for your business's bottom line.
